Carpet

Carpets, which hold an important place in Middle Eastern culture, began to be used as decorative elements in Western European paintings from the 14th century onwards. During those times, particularly Persian and Anatolian carpets depicted in oil carpet paintings were met with great curiosity and admiration by the Western world, which found the Eastern influences intriguing. By the 16th century, carpets were frequently portrayed in portrait works as a symbol of high social and economic status in the background.

The frequent inclusion of Eastern carpets in oil paintings, especially during the Renaissance period, has led to the availability of numerous oil carpet paintings reaching modern times. Today, carpets depicted with striking motifs stand out as an important part of Oriental culture.
